No Athol, No Problem: WE'RE GREAT!

Despite Athol being unable to come to the meet last Friday, the Ladyspartans clinched their 4th Divisional title in eight years. Their overall record in that time period is 51-8, the highest winning percentage amongst all sports teams in East Longmeadow's history (.864). Girls Outdoor Track & Field ranks as #4 overall with 190 wins, 97 losses and 6 ties (.659). Only Boys Swimming (the dynasty of the 60's 70's & 80's) as well as Golf rank higher than Girls Outdoor Track & Field.

Twice As set a personal best in the mile by finally going under 6 minutes (can anyone ask her to do Outdoor now, as Tennis might not be her racquet?). FloJo leaped a personal best 14-3 and Girl Scout earned big points in the 300. In a display of true sportsmanship, Chuckles helped K-Mart qualify for Western Mass in the two mile, and Giddy up earned her best time and Little Kane pr'd at 14:29.

The PVIAC Championships loom and that nasty team to the West looks like the favorite. Not to worry: WE'RE GREAT!

GITCHA POPCORN READY!

Dr. J in possibly her last attempt established a new school record in the 600 meter dash last night at Smith. In the process Green Lantern also took 3 seconds off of her freshman record. Ali McMahon also tied the existing freshman record in the high hurdles. Thus earning her new nickname: Boomayay! Shhhhhhhhhhh! She does not know this yet, we'll surprise her on Monday. Oh yeah, she might actually READ this blog...

The 300 also was a thrilling event where Real Deal, FloJo (7.7 in the 55), Killer, and Wiggles (where did SHE come from?) all had stellar performances: 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th overall. Madeus qualified for Western Mass in the shot, and Twice as took 2 seconds off of her best in the mile. There might be more, but apparently it's not headline material, although Thriller scored 30 points last night.

TUESDAY PRACTICE

Because of Teacher in Service, we are likely not allowed to practice during the regular hours of school. Therefore, practice is scheduled from 1:50 until we are done for Tuesday. Wednesday's practices shall likely be split, but until we get clearance from the Athletic Director, we shall have to show up on Tuesday to find out what is happening on Wednesday. E-mails have been sent out to everyone in this regard.

WHAT'S THIS? ANOTHER RECORD?

Led by Lauren (Velma) Russo, the 4 x 400 meter relay team grasped the school record for the 4 x 400 at the Reggie! Kayla (Killer) Rybacki, Ashley (Dolly) Madison, and Taylor (Real Deal) Rooney ran a 4:23.78. They took nearly two second off of the 5 year old record.

Scurry jumped her season best 14-9 1/2 while leading the Long Jump Relay team to a seventh place finish, their best since 2005. The meet was honored by having East Longmeadow's own Julia (Giddy Up) Merton sing the National Anthem to start off the festivities.

A LITTLE PAYBACK

The Ladyspartans conquered Cathedral 70-25, avenging last year's loss. Chuckles set a new school record for the two mile in the process (12:25.9) while leading the team in scoring with 18 points. Dr. J added a victory in the 600 and forged 14 points. Scurry moved into first place in team scoring by registering 16 points. EL also defeated the Wildcats of New Leadership. Next up is New Bedford and then the Freshman-Sophomore meet. Longtime rival Chicopee is our next opponent within the league. Two nicknames were earned this night.

ROOKIES IMPRESS

Led by Azi Akpan, Taylor Rooney, and Maya Rhinehart, the Ladyspartans knocked off Mohawk Trail Regional in the Indoor opener. In an evening where many official errors were noticed, some performances are actually in question. Scurry took high honors in the Long Jump.

We have a long way to go to get prepared. Patience is the operative word right now. Our "sister" team New Leadership and Springfield Cathedral are up next. We had better be prepared.

Oh yeah, several people earned their nicknames last night. Coach Budd shall be handling nicknames a little differently this year. You HAVE to earn it. As soon as you do, it shall be released at the next team practice or function.

Crumb showed up at the Clinic today and seems excited about the prospect of Outdoor. We're loading up for that as well...

RECORD TURNOUT!

There are more prospects than ever coming out for Indoor Field and Track! We are adding a few meets onto the schedule so that everyone shall have at least a few opportunities to compete.

Captains Maria Jaroszewicz and Julie Lemanski have their work cut out. Currently 54 names grace the roster as competitors and fortunately we have listed two managers to keep things in line.

Added to the schedule are: New Bedford on December 29 (we have to limit the number of competitors though because we shall only have one bus). Also added is the Auerbach Freshman & Sophomore meet at Reggie Lewis. This would be a great experience for those that fall into those categories. This is Sunday January 6 (the day after our Can & Bottle Drive).

Mohawk Trail Regional is our opponent this Friday. Good luck to all!
