PRIMETIME & MOUNT EVERETT

Our team MVP (and Frank Dutille Award Winner) Jessie Schnepp along with Western Mass Long Jump Champion Jenise Everett have been named to the ALL-WESTERN MASS first team! Congratulations!

Thank you to Mr. Dutille for coming in at the last moment to hand out his award and to Mr. Atkinson for handing out the Team Sportsmanship Award to our Captains Julie Lemanski and Brianna Butcher!

Track Camp starts on July 7. Senior Games is June 28 and Coach Evans is running her Camp at the High School on Thursday nights starting on July 10. Coach Torres shall be working with some individuals so that they can get us closer to that State Title and we are going to have Storm working with High Jumpers at some juncture this Summer. Cross Country is going to be going this summer along with Soccer and THE BEAN ROUTINE will be held on Sunday and Tuesday nights for GIRLS ONLY!

ONWARD TO STATES!

Mount Everett, Primetime, Flojo and Splurt are heading East! Looking at all of the performances yesterday, many were really quite impressive. We should have great balance next season since most of those performers are coming back!

Track Camp starts July 11. The whole schedule should be printed soon and we'll be looking for volunteers to go over to Field Day on June 5!

WESTERN MASS

The meet has been moved to MONDAY at 3:00! This is good, especially for our SENIORS!

We look pretty good!

200 WINS

We have reached that milestone finishing 10-2 for the regular season. Fine job put in today by many of our reserve players. The final score is not really important, but we did have two people qualify for the State Qualifier: Real Deal in the High Jump and (who else) Boomayay in the triple.

The future is NOW!

QUAD MEET RESULTS

In a hard fought meet, the Ladyspartans pulled off victories over the Brownies, Blue Devils and Gaels. Same time next year?

Injury bug has plagued us this season, but we need to achieve victory on Thursday against former Valley Wheel rival, Palmer and Sci-Tech of Springfield.

We are sitting on 198 victories. If we prevail, we shall reach an astounding 200 victories for the program that was founded in 1975.

DIVA!

BRONZE MEDALISTS AT DIVISIONALS

Who'd a thunk? The Ladyspartans finished 3rd today at the Western Mass. Divisional Championships. The Green Lantern and Crumb took second places in the 400 and long jump respectively Mount Everett and Primetime achieved third places in the long and triple jumps. Boomayay, Chuckles and Dr. J took fourths in the low hurdles, two mile and mile earning season best performances in the process.

Each relay team scored impressively: 2nd in the 4 x 8, 5th in the 4 x 1 and 3rd in the 4 x 4. We're not done yet. This was just a "Dress Rehearsal" for the objectives we're looking for.

NEW: I wanted to add this to the post: NO INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONS, but TOTAL TEAM EFFORT!

Out of all the teams in the top tier on Saturday, we had no Individual Champions, but we competed as a solid TEAM! HAIGO!

FOR ELEANOR CAOUETTE!

For those of you that don't know, the greatest Track & Field official in the history of this planet lives in Greenfield (Ken Caouette). His wife has been given a short time to remain with us. Yesterday the Ladyspartans gave out a phenomenal effort against the top team in Western Mass. Unfortunately they fell short of the winning objective, but you would never know it!

Primetime came through along with Chuckles to secure multiple individual victories. The Real Deal and Splurt assisted in two wins as well.

Can you say KIT KAT? We also have a new up and coming SALT N' PEPPA dynamo in the discus. The race of the day you say? How about the low hurdles? Was that a FRESHMAN that had Ludlow's ace athlete on the ropes? Did that same freshman anchor the winning 4 x 400 meter relay team!?! BOOMAYAY!

Ken and Eleanor would have enjoyed the SHOW today. May God bless her.

KEEPING PACE

The Ladyspartans defeated the Pacers 106-30. Deeds threw her personal best 90' 6" in the javelin. "Full Force"(as she is now called) qualified for Western Mass in the shot put with a 28' 6" heave. Double individual wins by Chuckles and Primetime helped a great deal. Next up is the Steele Relays which we shall probably only enter half of the events. Get ready for tough practices as we get ready for the second third of the season. Time to get focussed!

GREAT PERFORMANCES

The Lantern and Boomayay started assaults on freshman records at Minnechaug. Primetime took the triple and high jumps and anchored the winning 4 x 100 meter relay team that started the rally which fell six points short. The Ladyspartans won every running event from that point taking the 400, 300 lows, 800, 200, 2 mile, and 4 x 400. Next up is the home opener.

BLOOMFIELD INVITATIONAL

Band Camp wins her first ever Outdoor race! You can view her name right here:
www.mysportsresults.com For those of you too lazy, here is the story:
5th Bloomfield Invitational - Warm Weather Helps Record Setters...(Apr 6, 2008-10:00am-By Ron Knapp) The decision by Meet Director Garfield White to change the start time from 10am to 12-noon helped several performers as twelve meet records were set or tied at the 2008 Bloomfield Invite on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Bloomfield High School. The assault on the record books started with Kristen Johnson of Bloomfield as she won the 100m Hurdles in 15.61. The Boys 100m Dash record of 10.74 set by Myles Bradley of NFA in 2005 was one of three meet records broken by Bloomfield sprinter Dominic Smith as he won with a time of 10.60. Smith also set meet records in winning performances in the 400m Dash (49.60) and the 200m Dash (22.09). More record performances in boys events came from Josh Walton of AI Prince Tech in the 300m Hurdles (41.00), Alex Zarka of Farmington in the 1600m Run (4:32.73), Adam Bolton of Naugatuck in the Pole Vault (12'6") and a record tying performance of 6'4" in the High Jump by Troy Candler of Bulkeley. In Girls events, Erica Hines of Enrico Fermi ran to a meet record of 5:13.80 in the 1600m Run while Tori Pisco of Naugatuck set a record in the 800m Run with a time of 2:33.15. Record efforts in other girls events were provided by Keyrah Williams of Naugatuck in the Discus Throw (103'9") and a tie for the High Jump record of 5'4" by Jasmine Cribb of Naugatuck.
Other event winners for girls included Tasha Etim (100m Dash) and Tina Thomas (200m), both from Classical Magnet, Whitney Holder of Middletown (400m), Jocelyn Kane of East Longmeadow MA (3200m), Kim Kyne of William Hall (300m Hurdles), Koreen Shoham of William Hall (Pole Vault), Miriam Mboya of New Leadership MA (Long Jump), Javhan Bowie of New Leadership MA (Triple Jump), Rachel Morgan of William Hall (Shot Put) and Jenna Rossi of Middletown (Javelin). In Girls relay events, Enrico Fermi captured the 4x100m, Bloomfield won the 4x400m and Naugatuck was first in the 4x800m.

ALL-WESTERN MASS!

Doctor J and Chuckles will be honored sometime in April with an All-Western Mass first team selection! A good way to finish off their stellar Indoor careers. It's paparazzi time!

Speaking of careers, two of our prominent freshman, Real Deal and Green Lantern are starting theirs off quite well...they earned second team honors!

Congratulations to all!

STATE RANKINGS

By setting a new school record, Green Lantern is ranked 84th in the State! Dr.J is also placed 81st, Chuckles 78th. The 4 x 4 relay team is rated 65th and the 4 x 8 56th throughout the Commonwealth!

No Athol, No Problem: WE'RE GREAT!

Despite Athol being unable to come to the meet last Friday, the Ladyspartans clinched their 4th Divisional title in eight years. Their overall record in that time period is 51-8, the highest winning percentage amongst all sports teams in East Longmeadow's history (.864). Girls Outdoor Track & Field ranks as #4 overall with 190 wins, 97 losses and 6 ties (.659). Only Boys Swimming (the dynasty of the 60's 70's & 80's) as well as Golf rank higher than Girls Outdoor Track & Field.

Twice As set a personal best in the mile by finally going under 6 minutes (can anyone ask her to do Outdoor now, as Tennis might not be her racquet?). FloJo leaped a personal best 14-3 and Girl Scout earned big points in the 300. In a display of true sportsmanship, Chuckles helped K-Mart qualify for Western Mass in the two mile, and Giddy up earned her best time and Little Kane pr'd at 14:29.

The PVIAC Championships loom and that nasty team to the West looks like the favorite. Not to worry: WE'RE GREAT!

GITCHA POPCORN READY!

Dr. J in possibly her last attempt established a new school record in the 600 meter dash last night at Smith. In the process Green Lantern also took 3 seconds off of her freshman record. Ali McMahon also tied the existing freshman record in the high hurdles. Thus earning her new nickname: Boomayay! Shhhhhhhhhhh! She does not know this yet, we'll surprise her on Monday. Oh yeah, she might actually READ this blog...

The 300 also was a thrilling event where Real Deal, FloJo (7.7 in the 55), Killer, and Wiggles (where did SHE come from?) all had stellar performances: 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th overall. Madeus qualified for Western Mass in the shot, and Twice as took 2 seconds off of her best in the mile. There might be more, but apparently it's not headline material, although Thriller scored 30 points last night.

TUESDAY PRACTICE

Because of Teacher in Service, we are likely not allowed to practice during the regular hours of school. Therefore, practice is scheduled from 1:50 until we are done for Tuesday. Wednesday's practices shall likely be split, but until we get clearance from the Athletic Director, we shall have to show up on Tuesday to find out what is happening on Wednesday. E-mails have been sent out to everyone in this regard.

WHAT'S THIS? ANOTHER RECORD?

Led by Lauren (Velma) Russo, the 4 x 400 meter relay team grasped the school record for the 4 x 400 at the Reggie! Kayla (Killer) Rybacki, Ashley (Dolly) Madison, and Taylor (Real Deal) Rooney ran a 4:23.78. They took nearly two second off of the 5 year old record.

Scurry jumped her season best 14-9 1/2 while leading the Long Jump Relay team to a seventh place finish, their best since 2005. The meet was honored by having East Longmeadow's own Julia (Giddy Up) Merton sing the National Anthem to start off the festivities.

FOUR FRESHMEN EARN STATE BERTH

Maya Rhinehart, Taylor Rooney, Kayla Rybacki and Azi Akpan combined for a 4:33.05 4 x 400 meter relay and thus earned a spot for East Longmeadow at the State Sectionals.

In addition, FloJo finished 12th in the 55 meter dash (8.02), Green Lantern came within .15 seconds of the freshman record in the 600 (1:52.85) and Ashley (Dolly) Madison qualified for the PVIAC championships in the 600 (1:58.01). A lot of goals were achieved at the Freshman-Sophomore Championships!
