MEET 12/27

As of 10:04 tonight, the meet is still on for tomorrow.

I spoke with the Meet Director and they shall make a determination at some point really EARLY in the morning. I also have the number for the Bus Driver, so he'll also get notified if there is a change.

I wish I could be more specific, but I cannot.

NO MORE WESTERN MASS OPEN?

Evidently there shall never be another Western Mass Open Champion. This makes us the LAST open Champions of Western Mass ever! The MIAA has determined that if WE can win that title, then apparently that title need not exist.

Contact me if you want the whole story.

CANNED GOOD DRIVE, ANYONE?

The Open Pantry has closed today due to lack of food and any donations.

Can the LadySpartans ( and GentlemanSpartans) step up and be leaders and organize a canned good drive like we did two years ago for Cross Country???

OUTDOOR TRACK #3

After the conclusion of all high school sports, it has been recognized that GIRLS OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD has supplanted Boys Swimming as the number three all-time sport in the high school with a .6916 winning percentage.

The only thing that stands between #3 and #2 is Golf ( darn the Mr. Courtney) with a .7036 percentage.

WHO'S NUMBER ONE? You might ask. Of course it is GIRLS INDOOR TRACK & FIELD with an incredible .9167 winning percentage.

So when newcomers ask  "who's the best team in the school?" You ALL already KNOW that answer!

WINNING!

HISTORY IN WESTFIELD

Could it be that there is magic in the throwback jerseys? Did we finally exorcise the demons of 1991?

A word to the wise: Let's not get too happy yet. We now need to REPRESENT at the State High School Championships.

Certainly we made school history as the FIRST EVER MIAA Western Mass Meet Champions on the East Longmeadow Girls Track & Field side. This accomplishment was done as a team.T-E-A-M. We did what we had to do TOGETHER!

35 years to the day after Coach Duck's 1977 Championship at Tech ( look it up).

HEY, WE DID IT AGAIN!

Back To Back Divisional Champions

Total team effort leads to the Championship. New School record set in the Javelin by the Senator, and new Freshman records set in the High Jump by Sushi and 400 Meter dash by the President. An amazing finish in the 4 x 400 meters and as you can see...an EXHAUSTED Coach.

POOH

Watch out Mr. Miyagi, Pooh Bear has finally caught up with you!

35-11. Enough said!

The Ladyspartans clinched their first outright title Outdoors since 2005 with a victory over the Lady Lions of Ludlow! This was not such an easy match as people had to step up in other areas to assure the win. Nail Polish had a Western Mass qualifying performance in the Discus, and the One Man Band had her personal best in he 800.

Friday is coming quick and the Western Mass Divisional Championships is next on tap.

Option One baby!

SPARTAN INVITATIONAL

Wow! Looks as though there were more than 36 personal season bests at the Spartan Invitational. We also had a SUPER Full Moon. The moon is about 4,000 miles closer than it normally is. This event won't happen again until 2029 ( which would be the year of this meet's 17th anniversary - but WHO is looking ahead?)

The athlete of the meet was clearly Erin (CSI-Smuggles) Rybacki. Winner of the 100 in 12.5, winner of the Triple Jump in 35-7.5, Anchor of the winning 4 x 100 relay and runner up with a personal best ( in ALL Events) of the Long Jump 16-3.

Thank you to all invovled for helping out including: OFFICIALS, FOOTBALL BOOSTERS, TEAMS, COACHES, PARENTS,JERRY THE CUSTODIAN, FANS, but especially OUR TEAMS  moving the meet along quickly. The feedback I received was nothing but positive. Many visiting athletes, parents and coaches stated that this was the best meet they had ever been to.

Now will Knockout please report to the pressbox?

PAIGING SUSE...

The great Jessie Schnepp has had one of her records fall.  Sushi took over the mantle as the best ever Freshman High Jumper, clearing 4 feet 11 inches, and has thus officially earned the first new nickname of the season. But don't look over your shoulder, Little Kennedy is hot on the trail.

Coach Budd shall post later today exactly how many personal bests were achieved, and what the next week is going to be all about as we head into the "May the Fourth be with you" tournament.

DON'T EAT OUR FRUIT SNACKS!

TWENTY SIX. Yes. 26 Division One qualifying performances made on this our first Track Meet on the new Frank Dutille track (that's what I am calling it).

Thank you Mr. D. for coming out to start the first ever race on the facility and we shall see you on May 4th for our Spartan Invitational.

This may have been the first time ever that the Boys and Girls competed in dual meets on the same day. So an historic event this was all around.

FLOJOFOSHO

Took her running in College for us to get a picture of her. Apparently she was too fast in High School and has slowed down enough so that we can picture her!

Athlete: Alex Morgan of USA women’s national team

Event: Long jump

Sneaker: Nike

Pre-meet habit: Eats a asiago bagel from Panera Bread the day of meets

IMMEDIATE REACTION

Weithofer on how she thought she performed at the championship meet: “I did better than I thought I would in the 55 because all season I was running in the 7.7s and I ran a 7.62, which was a surprise for me and a reward for me. In the long jump I didn’t think I’d get 17 feet again but I did.”

Weithofer on East Longmeadow repeating as regional champions: “It was a reward for all of us. It was awesome to win it all.”

LOOKIE WHAT WE HAVE HERE!

Red Robin, Red Raven, Kazbah and CSI bring home the BLING and break a school record in the process 1:48.06 in the 4 x 200!

OPTION ONE

This was by far our finest hour. Red Raven showed us the way this time. Let's not overlook the relay connection of Jelly, V-Sizzle, Champipple and Red Robin who sealed the deal. Celebrate in style this weekend (heck, go to Olive Garden again and run up a $430 bill!). I don't care.

Monday we have to get prepared for the State Sectionals on Friday. Team meeting after school and then back to work. We'll have two visitors with us from New Leadership.

We wanted it even more than last year and we got it...but we ain't done!

LEAGUE CHAMPIONS AGAIN

Led by Juniors Pooh Bear and Red Raven, the Ladyspartans held off a very upset minded South Hadley Tiger team in a thrilling contest. Seventeen personal best performances were achieved along the way.

Next up are the Western Mass Championships.

STILL A TOPIC OF CONVERSATION!

It's been two years since Mount Everett has left the Ladyspartans for the promised land of Morgan State. Today she is still a topic of discussion at meetings.

It's all about respect, baby (AND the Western Mass Meet record in the Triple Jump!)

Go Morgan State Bears!

Saturday, January 28, 2012

STATEMENT?

Perhaps Mr. Wells of the Republican accurately assessed our performances last night. 22. Count 'em. TWENTY TWO personal season best performances last night against Mahar and Mohawk.

Seventeen of them are personal bests all-time!

Champipple had three of her own. Red Robin, and V-Sizzle achieved two.

The Next Big Thing, started something in the Shot put. It'll be interesting to see what that leads to.

THERE IS A NEW "STORM" IN TOWN...

THIS one won't cause a power failure, she's FULL of power: CSI!

7.60 in the 55. another 16 foot jump in the long jump and just for kicks, a 1:06 split in the 4 x 400!

All this and we ain't got no pictures. SOMEBODY try to catch this elusive runner on camera. All we can find is a blur!

RED RAVEN, RED RAVEN

So, who's the best football player in East Longmeadow High School? Here's a hint: She participates for the GIRLS INDOOR TRACK TEAM!

Don't believe ME, ask two members of Athol's Boys team after they decided to stray over to the long jump area uninvited and oblivious to the fact that the girls were competing there.

The Patriots need help at linebacker, and I know whom they should draft!

WHERE'S ALI BOOMAYAY?

She's a Worcester State Lancer...I guess it is better than a Longmeadow Lancer...
