BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME NOV 1

Charlotte Richardson, pioneer in women's distance running, will be arriving in Springfield on Thursday, November 1st to speak at the Basketball Hall of Fame Friday night at 6:00pm.
As you are aware she will be screening her DVD "Run Like a Girl"at the Basketball Hall of Fame this Friday November2nd at 6:00 pm with a question and answer session to follow.
Only 30 something years ago women and girls were banned from road racing and track distance events. Charlotte helped change that and I would think area runners would find her talk and documentary fascinating.

NEW INDOOR ALIGNMENT

Due to the influx of three schools into the PVIAC Indoor League and other things that the Athletic Directors have approved, our league shall be quite different than in years passed.

We shall no longer race LONGMEADOW (that stinks) because they were moved into the Pioneer League because of their school and team size. We also have lost NORTHAMPTON, as they are now a combined school with Smith Academy (I did not think that our Indoor by-laws actually allowed this, but I suppose those rules no longer apply).

We shall now go head to head with CHICOPEE (moved down), and we shall start competition with SOUTH HADLEY (old foe from the 90's outdoors), NEW LEADERSHIP (yes, the Coach Hodge juggernaut), and MAHAR REGIONAL (where did THEY come from?). Our division now looks like this:
ATHOL
CATHEDRAL
CHICOPEE
EAST LONGMEADOW
HOLYOKE CATHOLIC
MAHAR REGIONAL
MOHAWK TRAIL REGIONAL
NEW LEADERSHIP
PIONEER VALLEY REGIONAL
SOUTH HADLEY
It is difficult to say how this league shall work out, our mission is still to get as many athletes qualified for the State Sectionals as possible. Advance onto the State Finals and aim for the New Englands. Everyone is still responsible for achieving their own goals, even if it is simply to get into and do well at the PVIAC Championship Meet. It is ALL ABOUT IMPROVEMENT!

FUNDRAISERS

I have two wonderful ideas on how to raise money for the team. One is I would like to start an ALUMNI ORGANIZATION consisting of those that were previously members of the teams. One of my ideas has already been approved by Mr. Freccero, but I won't reveal it publicly because we would not want the other teams to try it first and be successful. We have always prided ourselves as being the trend setters. It is obvious we cannot do too many car washes in December. Both of these ideas need to be run by the parents in order to see if they are willing to give them a try. Your participation, of course shall be required. Please have them contact me via e-mail (darthbuddster@aol.com) so I can put together a time and date to meet with them that does not conflict with the Fall sports schedules.

TRAINING

For those of you considering Indoor Track & Field, NOW is the time to get into training. It is the pre-season! What you do now has a direct effect on what happens in the Winter. If you are already participating in Cross Country, Volleyball, Soccer, or Field Hockey, then you should be somewhat adequately prepared for the Winter season. Good luck to all of those that are involved in a Fall Sport.
