HOW TO RUN THE 400

Pay attention. There shall be a test later today!

First FIVE steps as fast as you can. Head down.

First 50 meters fast. I will have a cone at that mark to remind you to run hard to that point

From 50 meters to  200 meters, "float". This does not mean slow down, but merely relax your shoulders and neck muscles.  Continue your pace with chin up, chest up and big arm action.

At 200 meter mark (will have another cone there) - accelerate for 10 meters (will place a third cone there as well).

From 220 meters  to about 310 meters  attack the curve by leaning slightly into it.

From 310 meters to the finish ( homestretch) "get tall". Step over drive down.

YES, you are tired, but this is the "guts portion" of the race.

When you reach the finish line, if you are religious in any way, THANK your maker!

The difference between you and others may very well be that you have a PLAN on how to run the race and are not simply running it to see what happens.

One of my best friends in life (Donald G. Beaman) always told me "You have GOT to have a PLAN!"

FOOT DOESN'T DO IT!

Despite having his foot cross the finish line first, it is important to note that it is the TORSO that must cross the finish line first in order to win!

In this race Usain Bolt loses.

RED RAVEN, RED RAVEN

So, who's the best football player in East Longmeadow High School? Here's a hint: She participates for the GIRLS INDOOR TRACK TEAM!

Don't believe ME, ask two members of Athol's Boys team after they decided to stray over to the long jump area uninvited and oblivious to the fact that the girls were competing there.

The Patriots need help at linebacker, and I know whom they should draft!

NEW RECORD

The Ladyspartans were led by Killer setting a new school record in the 600 and just missing tying one in the high jump.

Boomayay took the hurdles as well as the long jump.

The streak has been extended to 35, but a wake up call in the 4 x 200 means there is much more work to be done!

LADYSPARTANS SECOND

Killer, Boomayay, Red Raven, Pooh Bear and Bootstrap combined to finish with 2938 points to finish second in the Team Pentathlon!

The 4 x 200 meter relay also combined to finish first and secure the 4th fastest time in the State at 1:49.72. This included Flojo, Killer, Red Raven and Boomayay!

NO PRACTICE MONDAY

There is no practice today due to the weather.

Watch this site later today to determine the schedule for tomorrow. It is likely we shall be training in shifts to get all the necessary work in for Tuesday's meet.

We shall also institute a broadcast plan so that when an emergency arises there is a system in place so that this is handled a little better.

Captains and team leaders shall be in communication with you.

STREAK CONTINUES

The Ladyspartan Indoor squad continued it's dual meet winning streak by trouncing Pioneer ( 87-8) and Central (89-6). Keep in mind this is a dual meet streak of 32 consecutive wins.

Eighty burgers are nice, but it's performances that truly count. Killer registered her peraonal best in the 600. Bootstrap did the same in the 1000. Pooh Bear followed suit in the shot put. In all there were 18 personal bests and a dozen post season qualifying performances.

DJ BAND CAMP

So yesterday, the Ladyspartans were represented on 90.7 WTCC!

Wait a minute...does anyone in East Longmeadow actually LISTEN to TCC? Something to ponder. We were representing in the Carl Joseph Walker Hoover scholarship run.
A couple of things to be noted:
School record holder Danyelle' (Miyagi) Thorpe's parents were there offering support and took on the walk portion of the event.
Carl Joseph was the cousin of one of our best shot putters of all-time and STILL a current school record holder: Shucky Ducky (quack quack) a.k.a. Andrea Walker.
Bootstrap actually THINKS she can dance.
And Band Camp did a great job as spokesperson for the team on the airwaves.
We'll be doing at least one more benefit as a team in the near future. Stay tuned to the Ladyspartan XC squad!

LEAGUE CHAMPS AGAIN!

Did the Buddster have one more trick up his sleeve? YOU BET! This time it was Mount Everett.

13 personal best performances did not hurt the cause either! If you want details, read the message board on Track Central!
