EMERIL NAMED

Elisabeth Cooke was named East Longmeadow Female Athlete of the Year by Masslive!

Her Indoor and Outdoor seasons were stellar, as she was also named Outstanding Performer by the Indoor Team.

Outdoors, she broke Danyelle' Thorpe's 2007 school record in the discus throw and also won the Western Mass. title in the same event.

In both seasons, she individually made it to the All-State Championships.

Congratulations to "Emeril" as she takes her skills to Regis College where she also was a recipient of an MSTCA scholarship.

Nicely done!

WHAT'S COOKE'IN IN EAST LONGMEADOW?

After defeating Minnechaug on Monday, the Ladyspartan Field and Track team took on nine teams at the Spartan Invitational on STAR WARS DAY which also happened to be Senior Night.

While Senior Abby Laughlin outdistanced everyone in the two mile and the 800 meters, Senior Morgan Voight came within one second of the oldest school record in the mile.

Those two performances are worthy of the highlight film, but SENIOR ELISABETH COOKE took out a nine year old record on her own. She nipped(future Hall of Famer) Danyelle' Thorpe's record in the discus! She also followed up with a victory in the shot put before donning the black for the Band's Spring Concert.

We want to thank Maestro K for loaning her out to us, but for also being "instrumental" in Ms. Thorpe's career as well.

Guess we are going to be looking very closely at the band for our next great thrower! It's not in the water, it's in the woodwind section!
THANK YOU SENIORS:

FINAL CAMP WAS THE BEST EVER!

Monday night the members of the 17th Annual Track and Field Camp enjoyed their finest hour thus far in their short careers.

Competitors gave a hurdle demonstration for all to watch under the guidance of a new hurdler herself: Marina Wilkins also now known as Flip Flop.

Following the hurdles, several of the campers gave their all in the Long Jump. Coach Gorman officiated the event along with Brianna "Febreze" Murphy.

Each Jumper had their best performance on their final attempts...this is a very good omen for their future.

In the 100 meter trials six competitors fought their way to the finals which would be held after the shot put throw.

Elisabeth "Emeril" Cooke took over the shot put event along with Lindsey "Sox" Robinson. There were some really impressive throws for the group that had only practiced the event once prior to this Meet.

After some blazing times in the 100 meter finals, relay teams were established for the final event. Teams were selected based upon their seedings in the 100 as well as experience.

Though the lights never came on, it was lights out in terms of how fast each individual on each team ran. We had only practiced baton exchanges earlier in the sessions. All of the campers remembered how the zones worked, how to make the proper exchanges and performed as if they had been doing it all year.

The future looks good indeed for the Ladyspartans. We'll have pictures at a later time and date for everyone to view. Keep your eye out for the Reminder Publication in about two weeks and read all about it!

CROSS COUNTRY SCHEDULE IS POSTED/INDOOR ALSO

The Fall Cross Country schedule is now on the web site. There are a lot of meets listed and many that we shall not be attending, but we can discuss ( along with the Boys team) where we might be best suited to attend.

There are some dates for Indoors without opponents. That portion of the schedule has not been published yet, but we know we have a Thursday meet listed.

WELCOME MR. MARCHEWKA!

East Longmeadow Ladies Track & Field welcomes our newest Athletic Director, Mr. Robert Marchewka, formerly the AD at Belchertown HS.

Mr. M has many terrific ideas on how to improve East Longmeadow athletics and beat out a host of other qualified candidates to secure the position. Our own Poison Ivy was on the selection committee along with Mrs. Kennedy.

His office is located next to the conference room near the Ladies locker room. He is the latest person to shed "Orange and Black" for the "Scarlet and Gray".

IMMEDIATE REACTION

Coach Michael Budd on Simonds:

“She has been a pillar of strength and consistency for our team the past four years, both indoors and outdoors. I believe that she and Lauren Kennedy are ELHS Hall of Fame material and could very well be inducted on the same day 10 years from now."

Simonds on setting the school record:

“It was really rewarding because I wasn’t doing as well as I wanted this year, so to do well at two important meets and to break the record there just felt really good. I knew since this was my last season I’d have to work hard this year to get what I wanted.”
